Increasing numbers of us are suffering from poor mental health and although we are getting better at talking about it we are still reluctant or unable to do anything about it, often waiting until it’s too late and we are forced, either through crisis or the efforts of our family, to go to the doctor.
Modern stresses are unbelievably different to those experienced by our caveman predecessors. However chemically our body's response is exactly the same. We pump out huge amounts of hormones designed to help us run away from the sabre toothed tiger. Our body’s don’t know that our stresses are now significantly more likely to be work deadlines, full-time work hours coupled with full-on family or financial worries.
Living with these high stress levels over time can cause low mood and depression, anxiety, insomnia and more. Studies also show that it increases levels of inflammation in your body that increase your risk of heart disease as well as gut and immune system disorders.
When we are stressed we often make poor diet and activity choices - we’ve all been in a situation when the only solution seems to be a massive shot of caffeine swiftly followed by the sugar boost of the biscuit barrel - but these only worsen the problem causing a vicious spiral into poor health.
I want to enable you to look at your current life stresses and work together to achieve a happier, healthier you. There are tried and tested methods which we can work to implement in your daily life, finding the solutions that work best for you as an individual.
